Phyllis was born in Muncie on June 26, 1943, the daughter of James and Corya (Hines) Hammond, and was a 1961 graduate of Muncie Central High School.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gayl Woodring, Parker city; 10 children, Doug Woodring, Michael Woodring, both of Muncie, Tom Woodring, (wife-Betty), Oakville, Joe Woodring, (special friend-Julie Moss) Guy Woodring,(wife-Kathi), Mike Schoeff, (special friend-Janie Bennett), Vanetta Brown, (husband-Jeff), Shawn Workman, (special friend-Denny Helton), Denise Willson, (special friend-Mark West), and a close friend to Phyllis, Earl Willson, and Amber Webb, (special friend-Jeff Calvert), all of Muncie; two sisters, Pat Kurtz, (husband-Dick), and Nancy Conley, both of Muncie; a brother Jimmy Atkinson, Clearwater, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Nick, Matt, Austin, and Amanda Woodring, Michael Tyler, and Lacy Schoeff, Kyra, Nate, and Markest Brown, Josh Workman, and Natosha and Mckenzie Willson; six great grandchildren; a special aunt, Charlene Rudisill; and several nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Hammond, and Jerry Hammond; a sister, Dian Floyd; a brother-in-law, Ed Conley; and a nephew, Mike “Slugger” Floyd.
