Phyllis “Elaine” Freese, 72, was called to Heaven on December 4th, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She was born September 1, 1941 in Hartford City, Indiana, the daughter of Durwood “Jim” and Mildred (Cook) Monroe. Elaine graduated from Jefferson Township School. She was a home-maker until her kids were grown. After that she worked for many years alongside her husband, Neil Freese, to whom she was married for over 50 wonderful years.

Elaine was a shining star to everyone who crossed paths with her. We will all miss her pretty smile and pleasant disposition. She was so sweet and kind, always thinking of others. Elaine loved words. She always wrote special notes and poems to her loved ones. She loved to bake, and wanted to use baking as a way to give back, once she retired. She was a ball of energy. Elaine also loved to travel. She and Neil visited several countries and all over the United States. In 2000, Elaine and Neil moved to Illinois where they owned ELF Labs, Inc. They lived together, worked together and played together. They were best friends.

Elaine leaves to cherish her lovely memory her husband, Neil; one son, Tony Freese (wife, Suzanne) of Houston, TX., and two daughters, Dondra Freese of Ft. Wayne, IN., and Jane Caylor (husband, Mike) of Muncie, In.; four grandchildren, Megan Elbrecht (husband, Scott) of Austin, TX., Robert Caylor of Peoria, IL., Miranda White (husband, Travis) of Oakland, CA., and Amy Caylor of Muncie, IN.; one great granddaughter, Cadence; two brothers, Leon Monroe (wife, Doris) of Slidell, LA., and Terry Monroe (Jodell) Olympia, WA.; one sister, Diane Byall (husband, Tom) of Hartford City, In.; all her in-laws, who she considered birth family; aunts and uncles, including special aunt Twillah Runkle (husband, Charlie) of Yorktown, In; nieces, nephews and cousins; friends from all over the place; and her special four-legged babies, Picabo and Scooter.

Elaine was preceded in death by both of her parents, her brother, Bob, and her sister, Ruth Ann.
