Phyllis Bachman Koldewyn Boothe
Our much-loved and independent mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Phyllis Bachman Koldewyn Boothe passed away Friday, July 22, 2016. She was born May 5, 1916, in Ogden, Utah, to Milton K. and Marianna Bachman. She recently achieved her goal of living to 100 years of age. She graduated from Ogden High in 1934 and then worked for F.W. Woolworth’s.
She married Donald T. Koldewyn on October 5, 1937, in the Salt Lake Temple. Don passed away on October 4, 1964. She then worked as the office manager and secretary for Bachman Plumbing and Heating for 18 years. She married William Boothe in the summer of 1982, and he passed away on May 29, 2004.
She led a full and varied life; she was active in the LDS Church, serving as a ward and stake Relief Society president, a ward Young Women’s president and a stake Young Women’s counselor. She and her second husband, Bill, served in the Ogden, Utah Temple for six and a half years. She had many interests and hobbies, including gardening, needlework (especially quilting and counted cross-stitch), and reading. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her as kind and doting as well as a proud advocate of their interests and accomplishments; the younger ones knew her best as “Grandma M&Ms,” since she always had a full bowl of those and other treats. She was also known for her family dinners, including (and especially) the occasional fried-shrimp dinners that would overflow her dining room.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Donald B. (Becky), Brent M. (Sue), and Phillip T. (Kathy); fifteen grandchildren: Kristin (Blair) Randall, Derk (Christine) Koldewyn, Kati (Jeff) Penner, Jon (Cassie) Koldewyn, Mandy (Tony) Smith; David (Kerstin) Koldewyn, Daren (Jenny) Koldewyn, Bryan (Amanda) Koldewyn, Karen (Casey) Coffman, Pamela Koldewyn, Layne (Riann) Koldewyn, Jeff (Bel) Koldewyn, Kevin (Amanda) Koldewyn, Julie Koldewyn and Alex Koldewyn; thirty great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Combe and Arlene (Paul) Muller and her brother, Milton Bachman.
We want to give special thanks to the management and staff of Quail Meadow Assisted Living and Peak Hospice, Mike, Annette, Justin, and especially Ina, for their kind and professional care in her last days.
