Phillip Skibinski, age 82 of Centralia, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Phillip was born on June 27, 1933 in Richview Illinois, a son to Jim and Maude (White) Skibinski. He married Shirley Wallis and Kay (Hayes) Schubert, both ending in divorce.
In 1988, he married Juanita (Hunt) Wood in Granite City, IL and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2012. Phillip is survived by a son, Richard Skibinski and wife Ann of Madison, MS; and three daughters, Kathy Phillips and husband Dean of Kent, WA, Tyann Alli of Centralia, and Tammy Smith and husband George of Centralia. He lovingly embraced Juanita’s children as his own and is survived by two daughters, Doris Housewright and husband Jerry of O’Fallon, MO and Georgianna Sutton and husband Michael of Paragould, AR; two sons, Terry Hunt and wife Phyllis of Dale, IL and Larry Hunt of Dahlgren, IL.
He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Garcia, Frieda Manion, and Sherry Redmond and husband, David; one brother, Jimmy Skibinski; three brothers-in-law, Bob Street, Jim “Wallace” Smith and Adrian Leon Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita; son, Michael Skibinski; a sister, Mary Street; and one brother-in-law, Carl Smith. Phillip was employed by the Illinois Central R.R. for 35 years. He was a hard-working man with excellent work ethic. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Centralia, V.F.W. post 2055 and the Moose Lodge 1219. He proudly served his country during the Korean War, serving in the army and stationed in Germany. Phillip was a family man and his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
