Philip S. Slonim, PhD., 64, of Hammonton, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Philip was born in Brooklyn, NY., on August 3, 1946. He grew up in East Meadow, Long Island before pursuing his education at Hofstra University and receiving his master and doctorate degrees in psychology from Lehigh University. Philip began as a professor at Lafayette College and later moved to New Jersey where he became a licensed clinical psychologist.
Throughout Dr. Slonim’s career he maintained a private practice. He spent time working at Drenk Behavioral Health Center and Lakeland Hospital. In addition he provided psychological testing for many of the police and fire departments in local municipalities. For the past several years Dr. Slonim was employed as the head psychologist at South Woods Prison. Throughout his career he was a fervent advocate for his patients. Philip was an avid golfer and a member of Little Mill Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years; Marie (nee Pokorney) Slonim, his three children; Jennifer Horner (Michael Horner), Alex Slonim,. Megan Nelson (Chuck Kirlin); his grandson David Nelson, his mother: Hilda Slonim, his sister Martha Slonim (Julia Lawrence) and his brother, Barry Slonim.
