Philip Dwight Schaefer passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Bickford Cottage at the age of 73. Philip was born in York, PA on December 21, 1945, the son of the late David Schaefer and Mary Elizabeth (Arnold) Schaefer. He left York in 1963 to attend Valparaiso, University in Indiana, where he graduated in political science. Following his undergraduate studies, he continued his studies at Valparaiso and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree.

Phil Immediately immersed himself in the political turbulence of the 1960’s by working on Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign. His political life remained active throughout adulthood culminating in his election as Judge of the Kalamazoo County 9th Circuit Court where he remained for twenty years. He was an avid and passionate fly fisherman, who never missed an opening day up north. He was a loyal Baltimore Orioles fan, who grew up going to games with his father. He continued his love for the Orioles going to games at Camden Yards every year for the past twenty years.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifteen years, Chris Ann Johnson; two stepdaughters, Chloe and Maggie; two daughters, Lisa and Michele; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Lauren. He was preceded in death by one brother, David Schaefer.
