HATFIELD, PHILIP A., Of Kalamazoo. Philip A. Hatfield, age 94, died peacefully on September 20, 2010. He was born on August 26, 1916 in Bedford, Indiana. Phil was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion, in 1967. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Hatfield; son, David Deb Hatfield; daughter Nancy Hatfield; step daughter JoAnn Raoul Yochim; step son Jim Julie Betty; two granddaughters and twelve step grandchildren.

Phil graduated from Culver Military Academy and Indiana University. He began his banking career in Bedford, Indiana, and moved to Kalamazoo in 1961 to become the President of Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan Association. He retired from Fidelity in 1981. He was a very active member of the community and was particularly proud of his service on the Bronson Hospital board of directors, the Kalamazoo Economic Development Corporation and the Kalamazoo County Building Authority, as well as his membership in the Kalamazoo Rotary Club and his volunteer activities at the First United Methodist Church.

His love of horses was evident throughout his life, and Phil rode for pleasure as well as competed on the Quarter Horse show circuit into his 80s; a love he passed on to both granddaughters.
