Peter “Pete” Schubring was born on Saturday, September 24, 1938, in Rice Lake Wisconsin. The attending doctor had to be tracked down at a local football game. Pete and his family briefly lived in Wisconsin, Chicago, and Florida before settling in Washington, DC. They moved to Chillum, Maryland in the 1950s. As a teenager, Pete served in the DC National Guard and in the US Navy, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. As a young adult, he began a 38-year career in the restaurant business. Pete started as a $2.00 per day curb hop at the Mighty Mo in Queens Chapel, then signed on with Tops Drive-Inn, on New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, MD. He became a store manager in 1967. Pete then worked at Gino’s, Roy Rogers and Hardees throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area, as one company was bought by another.
