Peter “Pete” Garzanelli Sr., 77, of Cherry, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Evanston Hospital.

Pete was born August 14, 1942 in LaSalle to Mario and Esther (Lischewski) Garzanelli. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School and attended Illinois Valley Community College. He married Janice Pikula on November 26, 1966 at St. Benedict’s Church in Ladd.

Pete was an industrial electrician, working at Union Carbide in Ottawa, ESK in Hennepin and Sponge Cushion in Morris. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He was also a member of the LaSalle and Ladd Moose. Pete served in the Illinois National Guard and was called up to Chicago during the riots following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

He also served in the LaSalle Civil Defense as the Adjutant. He was in a number of bowling leagues and bowled a perfect 300 in practice. Even though his perfect score was only in practice, it was an achievement of which he was very proud.

Pete enjoyed camping and he loved fishing, especially with his best buddy, his father-in-law, Stan Pikula. He also enjoyed fish frys and family gatherings, including vacations to visit his brothers in Missouri and Nevada.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; one daughter, Tammi Garzanelli of Lake Geneva; one son, Peter, Jr. of Webster Park; two grandchildren, Anthony Garzanelli and Addison Vlastnik; one sister, Katherine (Dennis) Spencer of Pekin and two brothers, Mario Garzanelli of Nevada and Charles (Vicky) Garzanelli of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents.Pallbearers will be John Vlastnik, Cameron and Jerry Savage, Dan Ceresa, Gary Pikula and Gene Pikula, Jr.
