Peter Jerome Fagan, born in New Britain CT on June 15, 1941, passed away at his residence in Fulton MD on September 29, 2018. The son of Marguerite (Peg) Fagan and Charles (Chick) Fagan, brother of Kathleen Fagan Giedzinski (Hank, deceased) and John “Jack” A. Fagan (Julie), Peter is survived by the most loving nieces and nephews one could have.
Peter attended local schools in New Britain CT. Peter did seminary studies in Hartford and in Boston, earning a Masters of Divinity degree. An MA from University of Notre Dame, a Ph.D in clinical psychology from George Washington University and later a postdoc from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health completed his education.
Family and friends remember Peter’s unique mixture of humor, kindness and wisdom. The twinkle in his eye and the smile in his words offered compassion and insight.
Peter’s life work included working as a parish priest, seminary faculty, and Associate Catholic Chaplain, St. Thomas More Chapel at Yale University. He spent thirty plus years at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where, as Associate Professor of Medical Psychology, Peter directed the Sexual Behavior Consultation Unit (1984-2002) and later was Director of Research at Johns Hopkins HealthCare (2002-2013). Since his retirement in 2013 Peter consulted with the Kennedy Krieger Institute on a project for telebehavioral mental health service for military families. He mentored many residents and interns.
Peter’s delight in life was as husband to Gail Lambers for 39 years. They worked as a team in prison ministry at Jessup Correctional Institute as a retirement activity. They have been inspired by a life of love, learning and living on the edge of the Unknown. They travelled to Brazil, the Holy Land, throughout eastern and western Europe.
