Peter G. Mein, 77, of Peru, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018. Peter was born November 26, 1941 in Berlin, Germany to Paul and Elsa (Richter) Mein. After High School, he graduated in Chemistry at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (University of Karlsruhe).
He emigrated to the United States of America and worked as a research chemist for the Carus Corporation. Peter invented nine patented chemical processes while at Carus. In 1985, he was promoted to vice president. He held this position for many years before starting his own company, Specialty Products International, Inc., in 1993. His passion for chemistry as well as his innovative thinking and discipline lead him to his professional success. He appreciated studying technological and chemical innovations.
Peter enjoyed time with tennis and at the Illinois Valley YMCA. He was a true animal lover and cared for his dogs. Survivors include his brothers, Siegfried and Dieter Ziegler; his niece, Gabriele Germann and his two grandnephews, Benjamin and Dominic Germann; nephew, Klaus Germann and grandniece, Kim Germann; nephew Andreas Germann and grandnieces, Angelique and Sharie Germann. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Monika and Christel.
