Peter D. McCaughley, Sr. died Tuesday October 23, 2012 at Samaritan Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mt. Holly at the age of 75. Mr. McCaughley was born in Kearney, NJ and was a longtime resident of Burlington City. Peter was retired from the US Navy and the US Naval Air Reserve. During his time in the Navy he served as an ordinance man and as a Petty Officer in the Naval Air Reserve. He was also a retired lineman for Public Service Electric and as a Journeyman electrician for the IBEW, working out of several union locals.
He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Burlington Elks #996, a member of the Bristol, PA Elks # 970 and a member of the Beverly Athletic Club. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and camping. He was also an avid reader and a student of history. Peter is survived by his wife Gerri (nee Vaccaro), his son Peter D. McCaughley, Jr., his daughter Colleen Solomon, his grandchildren; Elizabeth Solomon, Christine Solomon, Peter McCaughley, III, Eric Solomon, Miranda McCaughley, Bryan Solomon and Kelly McCaughley.
He is also survived by his sister Marie Greenough, his sister in law Cathy McCaughley as well as several nieces and nephews.
