Mr. Peter A. Cicchino, Jr.
, 79, passed away on Monday March 7, 2011 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
Peter was born and raised in Harrison. He lived in Kearny for 48 years before moving to Brick 2 years ago.
Mr. Cicchino was an Insurance Agent for John Hancock Life Insurance Company for many years. He retired 20 years ago.
Pete served as a Councilman in Kearny’s First Ward from 1994 until 2003. He served as the Council President from 2000 until 2003. He was especially proud of being the Council liaison to the Kearny Recreation Department for several years.
From his love of sports of all kinds (he was the consummate Yankee fan) to his love of everything political, Pete had a passion for life. Being the social butterflies that they were, Pete and his beloved wife of 56 years Mary Jane (Robinson) never missed a party and loved dining and dancing at their favorite restaurant. A superb storyteller and one of the funniest men you will ever meet, it’s a true loss to all who knew him. He will be terribly missed by his family but we take comfort in knowing he is hugging his son, Peter.
Along with his wife Mary Jane, Pete leaves behind his four children; Sally Rooney and her husband Michael, Jane Goretski and her husband James, Jill Petriello and her husband Joseph, and William and his wife Elizabeth. He was the beloved grandfather of Michael and Ian Rooney, Jessica and Lindsay Goretski, Julia and Emily Cicchino and Jacqueline and Joseph Petriello. He will be deeply missed by Jonathan Springer, Phyllis Abromaitis, John and Patty Cicchino and the Robinson Family.
Peter was predeceased by his son Peter M. Cicchino in 2000.
