Perry W. Lanphear,80, of Watch Hill Rd, Westerly, fell asleep in Christ early Tuesday morning, September 26, 2006, at the Westerly Hospital.
Born in Stonington, CT, on December 27, 1925, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Mildred (Perry) Lanphear. He was the late Shirley (Sanders) Lanphear. He was also predeceased by a brother Henry C. Lanphear, an infant daughter Pamela Noel and infant grandson Dale Andrew Bounds.
He had been employed over the years as a machinist at MAMCO and as a carpenter. Prior to his retirement he had been in business as a building contractor with his son Timothy, primarily in the Watch Hill and Westerly area. After his retirement he continued to be active as a caretaker of several seasonal homes in the Watch Hill area.
He enjoyed telling stories of his boyhood adventures and summers living at Lanphear’s Garage in Watch Hill which housed chauffers and other summer staff for the homes and families in the colony.
He was a member of the Westerly Christadelphian Ecclesia at Dunns Corners. He was an avid Bible student, strong in his faith and an inspiration to his brothers and sisters in Chirst.
He is survived by his children, Marjorie Ann Harold and husband Louis J. Harold of Westerly; Laura Lee Bounds of Westerly, widow of the late Roy E. Bounds; David Perry Lanphear of Westerly; Peter Howard Lanphear and wife Kathleen of Perkinsville, CT; Martha Jean Bostrom and husband Owen E. Bostrom of Ashaway, Nancy Louise Harold and husband Steven A. Harold of Knoxville, TN, and Timothy Sanders Lanphear and wife Nancy of Westerly.
He also his survived by a brother, Frederick O. Lanphear and wife Nancy of Bothell, Washington, cousins Andrew Perry of Stonington and Priscilla (Conant) Ekerman of Misquamicut.
He was a beloved and adored “Grampa” by his 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He also leaves 15 nieces and nephews and their children.
