Pearl Maria Taylor, 68, was born in Trinidad and Tobago on December 7th, 1954, to
her parents, Elsie Montes and Clifford Christian. She had a close relationship with
her grandmother who was a devout Catholic and their devotion to worship,
prayer, and serving others strengthened their relationship with God. Growing up
she held various positions in the church and enjoyed her time as a choir member.
She was a good student and she enjoyed styling hair, she later earned her
cosmetology license from Wilfred Beauty Academy.
In her travels, she met my father Clarence Taylor and after a short courtship, they
married in 1972 at the Cathedral, in Port of Spain, Trinidad. We later migrated to
the US, settling in the Bronx.
My mom was a devoted wife and mother, she dedicated her life to loving and
supporting her family. As an only child, I never felt alone, my mom was always
there for me, we did everything together, and we were inseparable. She was the
most incredible role model who taught me to always believe in myself and to
always push myself to achieve my goals.
My mom loved to sing and dance and she always made her way to the dance
floor. She was a nurturing caregiver and would help anyone as much as she was
able to. She faced many challenges in her life but her positive outlook fueled her
determination to live her life to the fullest.
Recently, she was forced to withdraw from her active life in the community by a
debilitating illness to which she succumbed on Tuesday, April 18 th, 2023,
surrounded by her loved ones.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Montes and Clifford Christian.
She is survived by her husband Clarence Taylor, her daughter Elizabeth Taylor, her
son-in-law Gerry Taylor, her sisters, Glenda Richards, Deborah Alleyne, Venice
Montes, and Juliet Montes, her brother Winston Montes and their extended
families. Rest in Peace Pearl, until we reunite in heaven where we shall never part
again.
