RICH – Pauline Stephens, of Chattanooga died September 10, 2003 at her home. She was the widow of Turney Lee Rich who preceded her in death in 1997. A native of Liberty, Tn., she graduated from high school and Watkins Business College. She had worked for three governors of the State of Tennessee – Governors Browning, McCord and Cooper, as a liaison to the Tennessee legislature. During that time, her husband worked for Southern Battery Company. Mr. & Mrs. Rich also owned and operated a private school in Nashville. She and her husband moved to Chattanooga and founded Electro-Lite Battery Company in 1944, which remained in business until Mr. Rich’s death. She was an avid bridge player since 1939 and was a national champion many times. She won her first 1st place award in 1977 at the 25th International Bridge Championship in Mexico. She has been in numerous national and international championships in the United States, Mexico, Canada and France and has won over 100 tournaments.
