Paula Lydia Degner of Hebron, NE the daughter of Edward and Dorette(Kramp)Ahrens was born February 22, 1921 near Davenport, NE. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 88 years.
Paula was the youngest of 8 children. Paula was baptized March 6, 1921 and confirmed May 27, 1934 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Davenport, NE. She spent all of her life in the Davenport and Carleton area. She graduated from Davenport High School. She married Harvey Degner on June 15, 1941 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Davenport, NE. Harvey and Paula were blessed with the birth of two sons. Harvey died January 23, 1993. Paula then married Lawrence “Kelly” Bedford on November 30, 1995 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE.
She was an organist for Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedensau and she could play anything you could hum. After moving to Deshler, she was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, NE.
In later years her mind and body started to decline, but she still had that spark and spunk as she usually wasn’t afraid to express herself.
Paula is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Harvey Degner and Lawrence “Kelly” Bedford, one son Darrel, brothers Louis, Eddie, Adolph, Rudolph, and Julius, sisters Frieda Hoins, and Lydia Grummert.
She is survived by her son Merlin Degner and wife June of Deshler, NE, daughter-in-law Carolyn Hoyer, 5 grandchildren Angela Biggerstaff and husband Dean of Wahoo, NE, Brian Degner and wife Nicole of Omaha, NE, Andrea Degner of Omaha, NE, Erica Degner of Lincoln, NE, and Jackie Degner of Modesto, CA, 4 great-grandsons Tyler, Zach, and Tanner Degner, and Sam Biggerstaff, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
