Paul Kent James, formerly of Morehead, KY, passed peacefully to a better place on Monday, May 9, 2022. He succumbed to wounds suffered in an accidental house fire in Huntington, WV.

Paul Kent was born on May 23, 1957, at home on Christy Creek near Elliottville, KY. He was born with a rare genius and insightful views of the universe. Paul Kent attended Rowan County High School, Breckinridge Training School, and Morehead State University. While in grade school, Paul Kent’s genius caught the attention of the principal…his IQ was tested and was so high that they suggested he skip high school and go directly to college. He excelled in anything science-related and was a constant winner at numerous science fairs. He would consistently take things apart, make improvements, and put them back together again… better in most cases with only a few exciting exceptions. His research and theories on cryogenics and chemistry caught the attention of universities and Dupont corporation who offered to establish a research laboratory for him while he was just a teenager.

Paul Kent loved animals of all types and easily bonded with any he met. He also loved people and debating just about anything. Always passionate and convinced he had the answer, he could easily articulate a reason to have you reexamine your own opinion.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Chenault James of Morehead, and dear friend John Paul Vaughn.  He is survived by his mother, Pauline Kissick Brown (Omer) of Morehead; a brother, Timothy Chenault James (Lisa) of Morehead; son, Joshua Harris James (Melody); and granddaughter Peyton RaeAnn James living in South El Monte, CA. Paul Kent is also survived by an aunt, uncles, and many cousins.
