Paul Joseph Hrutkay, 82, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:28 a.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 in his home.
He was born on January 25, 1932 to the late Joseph B. and Rose Marie (Kostrzewa) Hrutkay in Detroit, MI, and has lived in South Bend since 1963, coming from Taylor, MI. Along with his parents; he was also preceded in death by his infant brother, Joseph Hrutkay, Jr. and his grandson, Austin Murphy.
Paul attended Roosevelt High School in Inkster, MI.
Mr. Hrutkay retired in 1991 from Ameritech, where he worked as an Electronic Switching Technician for 38 years.
On January 21, 1956, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Fochler in Detroit, MI.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Hrutkay of South Bend, IN; three daughters, Linda A. (Robert) Fitzpatrick of South Bend, IN; Margaret E. (Larry, Jr.) Spradlin of Granger, IN; Sharon M. (Brad) Murphy of Greenwood, IN; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Monts; Matthew Spradlin; Craig (Andrea) Spradlin; Ryan Fitzpatrick; Alexandra (Kevin) Peterson; Caleb Spradlin; Conner Spradlin; two great-grandchildren, Audrey Rose Peterson; Nolan S. Spradlin; and another great-grandchild is expected in November.
Paul was a member of Christ the King Catholic Parish; and a life member of C.W.A. Union and Telephone Pioneers. He loved to camp and to fish with his children and grandchildren.
