Paul Frederick Stein passed away on November 26, 2022, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 29, 1944, in Washington, DC to Saul and Grace Stein, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Pamela Stein, his brother Steven Stein, and his adult children with his first wife (Claudia Slate): Renee Stein Morehouse (John), James Stein (Tao), and Elizabeth Stein (David Tooley). He is also survived by his five grandchildren Quinn, Kate, Clara, Cedar and River.

Paul graduated from Franklin and Marshall in 1966 and from medical school at University of Tennessee in 1969. He then completed his internship in Roanoke. He served in the US Army as a captain and physician from 1971 to 1973. The family later moved to Lakeland in 1975, where he managed the emergency department at Lakeland Regional Hospital. In 1976, he opened a family practice in Lakeland until his retirement in 2011. He was loved by his patients and staff.

When Paul was a child, The Story of Ferdinand was his favorite book.

Paul was known for his kindness and generosity. He was a humble and private man. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a joyful smile. He was an exemplary father, doctor, and husband. He and his wife, Pamela, enjoyed life to its fullest. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
