Paul F. Hertel Jr., 84, of Salem, Illinois passed away December 20, 2020 at Salem Township Hospital.
Born November 18, 1936 in Edwardsville, IL, he was the son of Paul F. Hertel, Sr., and Miriam (Hotz) Hertel.
Following graduating high school, he attended the University of Illinois, and later graduated from SIU-Carbondale. He was Office manager for Marion County Home Bureau, retiring with 34 years of faithful service. He attended First Christian Church in Salem. He really enjoyed owning campers and camping. He also served in the U. S. Army.
He married Sonia J. Cole, December 30, 1958 and she survives in Salem.
Also surviving are his children Jeff (Stacie) of Ballwin, MO, Greg (Kristy) of Salem, IL, Chris (Nicki) of Cincinnati, OH, and Lauri Hoffee of Salem, IL, along with 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also his daughter-in-law, Alicia Hertel of Centralia, IL.
Also left to mourn his passing are his siblings Bill (Donna) Hertel of Arlington, TX, Gary (Rosemary) of New Jersey and Eileene (Les) Howerton of Staunton, IL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Hertel (2018) and sister Kathy Haring.
