In October of that year, he joined the United States Air Force. Paul was stationed in Lincoln, Neb., where he met Mary Lou Comer.  On June 14, 1959, they were married at the UCC First Congregational Church in Brule, Neb. He was also honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1959 and they made their home in Ogallala.

Paul began working for Goodall Electric and then transferred to TRW as a Quality Control Manager. He later went to work for Marshall Town in Oshkosh when he retired in 1998. Paul also worked for a short time building log homes including their home at Lake McConaughy.
