Paul Anthony Thomas died Tuesday, January 19, 2021, in Kalamazoo, MI after battling cancer.
He was born December 14, 1951, in Dowagiac, MI a son of John M. and Virginia (Anthony) Thomas.
He then attended both Bangor and South Haven Public Schools, where he lettered in both cross country and track and field. He attended Grand Valley University. Most recently he was enrolled in the WMU Senior Citizens’ Opportunity Program in Education. Paul made many friends at the Waldo Library with his humorous stories.
He served his country as an Army medical corpsman in Alaska from 1969 to 1971.
Returning to civilian life he worked a number of jobs in South Haven and St. Joseph before starting his own book business focusing on rare and unique publications. This evolved to focusing on bookbinding for area collectors and authors.
In retirement, his focus was on genealogy. Tracing his family roots from the early 1500s to the present day. He shared this ability willingly with many others in the Kalamazoo area.
Paul was a member of AA for the past 26 years and was well respected for his guidance and sponsorships.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two brothers, Mark A. (Anne Hawkinson) Thomas of Lawrence, MI and John C. Thomas of Sparta, MI. Additionally, many nieces and nephews.
