Patrick James Pelano, age 35, of Rome, passed away November 17, 2013, after being stricken at home.

He was born April 2, 1978, in Rome, the son of Patrick E. Pelano Jr. and Carleen Coughlin Pelano. He graduated from Rome Catholic High School and MVCC. Patrick was employed as a critical care attendant at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. He was a member of FASNY and the Oneida County Chief’s Association.

Patrick was an active member of the Stanwix Heights Volunteer Fire Department for the past 15 ½ years. He currently was serving as First Assistant Chief and an AEMT Critical Care Technician. His self-appointed nickname was “Battalion Chief”. Patrick truly lived and breathed the brotherhood and sisterhood of fire fighters and emergency service professionals.

Patrick is survived by his loving parents and grandmother, Josephine Pelano. Also surviving is his family of area fire fighters, co-workers at St. Luke’s Hospital; Janine, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many many friends.

Very special in his life were Steve Snow, Dave Garcia and longtime friend, Cindy Kent and her husband Scott and their children, Nicole Benedict and Matthew (who was Patrick’s special nephew.

A heartfelt thanks to Eric Sochia, Steve Snow, Jeff Burkhart, Maryann and Anthony Rotolo and the amazing number of “Special Angels” that have come our way.
