Patrick James Nemeth, 60, of Galesburg, died at 1:55 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg. Patrick was born on August 16, 1949, in Galesburg, the son of Raymond R. and Patricia Jean (Johnson) Nemeth.
He married Shirley L. Gibb on October 4, 1969, in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Galesburg; 2 sons, Raymond Robert Nemeth of Peru and Joseph Michael Nemeth of Ladd; and 2 brothers, John Nemeth and Scott (and Lisa) Nemeth both of Galesburg. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Isabelle, Anna, and Marissa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the National Guard for 6 years, during that time he guarded Air Force One for JFK. During his time in the National Guard, he also served as a recruiter. He had worked for many years as a circulation manager and director of various newspapers including the Galesburg Register Mail, Quad City Times, and the Bureau County Republican. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He enjoyed making stained glass, an art in which he was self-taught. He was also a music lover and self-taught guitar player along with other instruments. He enjoyed being at home where he loved to work in the yard.
