Patricia Childress Spurling, Ringgold, departed this life and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in a local hospital surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Walker County pioneering family. David and Susanna Smith Childress settled in Walker County in 1839 coming from Murfreesboro, Tenn. The great-granddaughter of Commodore and Mary Ann Couch Childress and the granddaughter of Noah and Laura Shaver Childress. Growing up in Dodge City, Kansas, she attended Rossville High School where she graduated. Then she returned to Dodge City and attended Dodge City Junior College, moving back to Georgia in 1960. She also attended Chattanooga State Community College. Mrs. Spurling was employed by the Walker County Department of Education as a secretary at Mountain View Elementary School for 13 years. She worked at Chattanooga State for three years in Institutional Research. Later she joined her husband, Mike as co-owner of Jones Piping of Tennessee, Inc., working there until her death. Active in the Cherokee Area Boy Scouts of America, she served as an Institutional Representative, a den mother for Pack 3116 and part time scout leader. Mrs. Spurling served as President of the Mountain View Community League for two years and secretary of the PTA. She was an avid genealogist and editor of the Childers/Childress family newsletter for 17 years. She loved history and traveling. Mrs. Spurling was a member of St.
