Patricia A. (Neilsen) Mathieu, 84, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 11, 2019 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Ottawa. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with Rev. David Kipfer, Pastor of the Ottawa Catholic Parishes, officiating.

She married Donald H. Mathieu on November 7, 1953. Mrs. Mathieu had served as President and other offices of St. Francis Altar and Rosary Society, President of the Ottawa Women’s Junior Matrons, correspondent for years to the Peoria Catholic Register (known as the Peoria Catholic Post today) Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America, Ottawa No. 236, worked several years as a chairwoman on Ottawa’s Riverfest celebration, President and Vice-President of the Community Hospital Auxiliary Board, served on several of CHO’s blood drives, as chairwoman. She volunteered at CHO with the accumulation of more than 1500 hours.

She is a member of Women of the Moose Ottawa Chapter No. 522, a member of AARP for years, and served as chairwoman of many more projects and organizations in Ottawa.Patricia danced under the direction of Rosalind Hupp for several years and went on tour in the summer months with her dance troop, traveling through many states. In later years she organized an older dance group with Lorraine Landers and was instructed by Patty Gray. They danced in recitals, plus at different places throughout the years, entertaining the public. Patricia enjoyed being around people and playing cards with different groups. She spent time with family, relatives, and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Shelley (Alan) Nelson, of Ottawa two grandsons, Matthew (Becky) and Scott Nelson, a sister Sandra Einhaus, of Ottawa, and a brother Brian (Diane) Neilsen, Sr., of Ottawa, and 2 grand dogs, Holly and Jasmine.She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Amy Neilsen, her husband, Donald, on September 15, 2017, and a brother Duane Neilsen.Pallbearers will be Matthew and Scott Nelson, Chuck Schafer, Mike and Tony Einhaus, and Brian Neilsen, Jr. St. Francis of Assisi Altar and Rosary Society Honor Guard will be: Norma Bruck, Barb Hanley, Rita Hogan, Mary Lou McCullough, Denise Miner, Pam Miskell, Pat O’Brien, Judy Pineda, Peg VanBuren.
