Patricia J. “Penny” (Knapik) Duty, of Greenwood, 78, died Tuesday March 1, 2016 in Indianapolis. She was born May 7, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Helen (Szafran) Knapik. Penny married Walter Duty on March 22, 1962; they were married for 37 years.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering for Compassionate Friends in Huntington, West Virginia as a volunteer organizer for several years. Penny and her husband were foster parents to many children over the years. When her daughters were younger she was a leader for Campfire Girls.
Penny was a kind and caring person, who always saw the best in people; she welcomed everyone into her home and made friends wherever she went. She was always willing to help others less fortunate. She was a member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church in Greenwood.
She is survived by her three children, Deborah (Tom) Dury of Greenwood, Kelly (Steven) Johnson of Ohio and Randy Roscoe of Texas; brother, Danny Knapik of Michigan; four grandchildren, Heather Peters, Christina and Kathryn Dury, Tobias Johnson, foster son, Scott Efaw and nieces, Sue, Courtney and Natalie Midkiff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter Duty, son, Bo Duty and brother, Richard, Knapik.
