Patricia Ann Smith Hess, 61, of Shelley, Idaho, lost her courageous battle with cancer on April 7, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at home.
She was born June 1, 1954, in Eugene, Oregon, to William and W. Jean Gordon Smith.
She was raised near Junction City, Oregon, on 80 acres of forest land where she and her siblings enjoyed the country life. After graduating from Junction City High School, she went on to attend Lane Community College in Eugene where she studied business administration.
Shortly after graduation, she married Steve Slikker where she traveled the country due to his job in the Navy. They Later divorced.
She lived in Portland, Oregon, where she worked as a business administrator in a dental office. She loved animals so much and had her own pet sitting business.
In 2008, she was reacquainted with her dear friend Robert Hess whom she had met years ago while they were both employed at Argonne National Laboratory. They married on November 7, 2009. They enjoyed many adventures together and loved traveling and being in the outdoors. She also cherished her time with her grandchildren watching them participate in golf and dancing.
She is survived by her loving husband Robert Hess of Shelley, Idaho; her two bonus sons Darin (Marjorie) Hess of Shelley and Travis (Shelley) Hess of Ammon; four grandchildren, Cody Hess of Boise, Ashley Hess of Boise, Andrew and Emma Hess of Ammon; and a great granddaughter, Elliot McKinnon; sister, Carolin (Stephen) Pettit of Cottage Grove, OR; brother, Dave Smith of Junction City, OR; sister, Marilyn (Roy) Henry of Maryland; nieces, Melissa (Paul) Welty of Albany, OR; and Cynthia (Ken) Turner of Cottage Grove, OR; nephews, Joseph Henry & Billy Smith; great niece Cheyenne Pettit of Cottage Grove, OR, who referred to Pat as The GAP – Great Aunt Pat; great nephews Glenn Turner and Wyatt Welty, and numerous cousins.
