Patricia “Patti” Ann McNames-Kunkel, 64, died September 5, 2015, at her home in San Destin, Florida.
Patti is survived by her husband of 21 years, Larry Kunkel; her mother, Florence D. McNames, of Clarksville, Indiana; her brother, Mike (Melodee) McNames of Sellersburg, Indiana; her nephews, Jared (Heather) McNames, Jassen (Stacey) McNames; four grand nephews and one grandniece. She is also survived by Larry’s daughters, Lesley (Tracy) Smith and Laura (Grant) McAlister and Larry’s three grandsons and two granddaughters as well as Patti’s loveable boys; Skippy and Scampi, (Abyssinian cats).
She was preceded in death by her father Jesse H. McNames.
Patti was born on February 15, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky to parents Jesse H McNames and Florence D McNames. She graduated 1969 Clarksville High School Salutatorian, 1972 University of Kentucky BA Ed, 1978 Indiana University MS Ed, 1985, Indiana University, E.D.S, 1995 University of Louisville Dr. Ed. D.
Patti’s career started in Southern Indiana Elementary schools teaching at S. Ellen Jones and Parkwood. She became a principal at Ewing Lane and Jonathon Jennings. She later became a Professor at Indiana University Southeast and the Leadership Coordinator for Education working with Teachers and Principals. After retiring to Florida, Patti was principal at Bob Sikes Elementary in Crestview, Florida. She was awarded by Okaloosa Schools as Best in Florida in 2003.
In her retirement, Patti enjoyed jewelry design and craftsmanship. She enjoyed physical fitness and ran in two New York Marathons. She dedicated her life to the care and education of children always doing what was best for the kids.
