Patricia A. (Lemon) McGuire, 77, of South Bend, Indiana passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013. Pat was born September 16, 1936, in Bloomington, Illinois to John & Mabel (Stroud) McGuire. She was a Maintenance Supervisor with the Mishawaka Housing Authority from 1988-2004.

Pat is survived by daughters, Melody Heintzelman of South Bend, Vicky Byrne of South Bend; sons, James Lemon Jr. of South Bend, Raymond (Cheryl) Lemon of South Bend; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Belcher of Normal, IL; and sisters-in-laws, Shirley, Deloris, & Marge McGuire. Pat’s twin sister, Peggy Ann McGuire; & brothers, Jim, Bob, Joe, Mick, & Chuck McGuire all preceded her in death.

Pat was the youngest of seven children and was always at the heels of her brothers who were outdoorsmen, and always taught her that she could accomplish anything she wanted even though she was a girl. She felt that you could do anything you set your mind to.

Pat graduated from Bloomington High School in 1954, Bloomington, IL. She was a loving wife and mother who was a mentor to many people. She was also a professional Trapeze Artist; drove Powder Puff in Demolition Derby’s; started Girls Softball in the State of Indiana through Chet Waggoner Little League in 1974 with her best friend Marsha Snyder, and Mary Bell, both deceased and Sue Grose (Heintz).

Pat coached many Little League teams that went on to tournament level. She was very proud to watch the Chet Waggoner Little League Girls Softball win the World Series over Italy in 2013.
She pioneered Softball which was her passion dedicating many hours to see that girls got a chance to play.

Pat became an official Umpire for the City of South Bend and Logansport, IN. She was proud she earned the respect of men as an umpire, and was surprised she was so highly sought after as an umpire, getting 40 calls a week.

Pat was a professional Fisherwoman with many sponsors including Tracker Boats, Stanley Marina, Lunkers, and many lure companies. She was in fishing clubs, starting with the
Bass’n Gals then St. Joe Valley Bass Masters. Even when she could no longer get in and out of a boat they took her to tournaments to fish. Pat loved to fish and was an avid Bow, Muzzle Loader,& Shotgun hunter. She loved the annual kids tournament at Potato Creek Park that the club held to mentor many kids in the art of fishing.

Pat retired from the Mishawaka Housing Authority after 16 years and had been recognized as employee of the year in 1997, where she was honored for 11 years of service. As Maintenance Director, she was the only woman who held the position in the state of Indiana.
