Parley LaMoine Howell, age 86, passed away in the morning of Thursday, March 26, 2020 in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
He was the 1ST child born to Noel and Cloe (Andersen) Howell in Clifton, Idaho. Parley grew up playing basketball and played for Gonzaga University for his Freshman year. He served a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Los Angeles, California where he met his sweetheart, Velma Ann Wilhite. After his mission release, they were married in Los Angeles on May 11, 1956. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Boeing for 35 years, many of which were spent on the space program where he was a key contributor and designed parts of the lunar rover. While living in Huntsville, Alabama, Parley and Velma raised their 5 amazing children. Much of his life was focused on family and God. He served in numerous church positions, including seminary teacher, Stake President of the Huntsville, Alabama Stake, Mission President over the New York, New York North Mission, 2nd Counselor in the Atlanta Temple Presidency and a Sealer in the Birmingham, Alabama and Nashville, Tennessee Temples. His quiet, gentle manner and loving leadership left an impact on many of those he came in contact with whether through his church service, his career connections or those he met on a daily basis. He has touched the lives of so many and he will be greatly missed.
Parley is survived by his 5 children, Lori (David) Deitrick, Marc (Laurie) Howell, Scott (Diane) Howell, Kim (John) Green, James (Chelsea) Howell, 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, his brothers Delwyn Howell, Darwin Howell and Verlo Howell and his Sisters Sharleen Turcott and Nola McGinnis. He was preceded in death by his sweet wife Velma, his parents, his brother Bronlee Howell and his grandson Gavin Howell.
