Paavo E. Pogue, 84, Fairmount, Indiana went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at University Nursing Center in Upland. Paavo was born in Matthews, Indiana on January 26, 1932 son of the late Daniel O. Pogue and Sigrid Suokko Pogue and graduated from Fairmount High School in1951. He was a combat Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict reaching the rank of Corporal.
Paavo was introduced to his wife Bernadine Chouquette Tisser and by Chouquettes brother in France while serving in Army. They were married in Nancy, France on October 15, 1954.Choquettesurvives in Fairmount .
Paavo retired from Delco Remy in Anderson where he worked on the assembly line for 32 years while also being a part time letter carrier for Fairmount Post Office. He enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota, Astronomy, yard work and feeding the birds. Keeping in shape and weight lifting was always an important part of his life. Up until his illness set in several years ago, he could still do numerous chin ups.
He was a member of the D.A.V. of Marion and the American Legion Post 313 of Fairmount where he was a former Chaplain and loved playing Taps for the Memorial Day Services. He also played the trumpet while in the Army. The most important thing in Paavos life was loving and serving the Lord. Along with his wife Choquette , Paavois survived by sisters-in laws; Jeanine (Bill)Wehrung, New Berne, NC, Gacqueline Tisserend, Lockeford, California and brother-in-law Jarque(Penny)Tissere nd, Alexandria, Virginia and dear neighbors and friends the Zirkles. He was preceded in death by son, Daniel Pogue and brother, Paul Pogue.
