Otto Jagels, age 97, of Livermore died on Friday June 12, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Otto William Jagels, the son Theodore and Lillie (Mein) Jagels, was born on December 13, 1917 near Hepler, Kansas.

He attended Lutheran parochial school. Otto came to Iowa in 1939 and worked on several farms in Humboldt County. On December 28, 1941 Otto was united in marriage with Lula Shipul in LuVerne, Iowa. Otto was drafted into the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was at bases in Texas, California, Oregon, Washington, England and Germany. On Dec. 13, 1945 Otto boarded a boat to come home and arrived in New York City on Christmas Eve. Otto and Lula’s only child Daryl was born on June 7, 1947. In 1946 he worked for Harry Rutz and rented farm ground and then he bought his own farm in 1954 northwest of LuVerne.

Otto retired in the fall of 1979 and moved to Livermore. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as finance officer for 20 years and trustee. He was also a member of the Otto-Field American Legion Post #415 of Livermore and served as the Commander for 5 years. Otto enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, boating, hunting when he was younger, baking, growing grapes for wine and being outdoors.

Left to cherish Otto’s memory is his daughter-in-law, Diane Jagels of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Mark Jagels of Fairmont, MN and Ann Marie Jagels of Fort Dodge; two great grandchildren, Mackayla and Ryan; and two sisters, Hildegard Granneman and Clara Granneman both of Girard, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lula in 1986; a son, Daryl Jagels in 2011; and two brothers, Paul and Alwin Jagels.
