Winsted: Oscar Lee Sherman, 88, of 80 Chestnut Street, passed peacefully Tuesday, December16, 2008, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Ella (Gudzinski) Sherman. Born in Princeton, Maine, August 10, 1920, he was the son of the late James and Hazel (Bailey) Sherman and had lived in CT since 1946. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the CT Junior Republic, SCASCO and the Gilbert Clock Co. He was an Army Veteran of WW II having served as a Medic in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by three sons, Arthur Sherman of New Hartford and wife Judy, Warren Sherman of Hughesville, PA and wife Jean, Bruce Sherman of Barkhamsted and wife Brenda; four brothers, Cecil Sherman and wife Lillian, William Sherman and wife Mary,and Maurice Sherman and wife Joan all of Winsted, and James Sherman of Glendale, AZ and wife Estelle; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Oscar touched many lives with his gentle ways and he will be greatly missed.
