Oscar E. Koch, 92, of Quakertown, died Thurs. July 23rd at his home. He was the loving husband of Mae Elizabeth “Betty” (Allison) Koch for 66 years. Born in Quakertown, he was a son of the late Oscar S. and Sadie (Krueger) Koch. Oscar graduated from Quakertown High School in 1940, then served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Upon his return home, he attended Muhlenberg College and earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1948. He was a supervisor for 30 years with Champion Spark Plug Co. in Hellertown. Oscar was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Quakertown, where he was a Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the Church Council for 1 ½ terms. Oscar was also a member of Post 245 VFW and Post 242 American Legion, as well as a lifetime member of the Quakertown Historical Society. He served on the committee for the historical society from 1983 to 2006. Oscar was also active with the Boy Scouts of America from 1961 to 1985, serving as a Cub Scout Master from 1961 to 1970. He was an umpire and a manager for the Little League from 1961 to 2001. He also volunteered as a driver for both the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. In addition to his wife, Oscar is survived by sons Matt, Todd, and Neal, all of Quakertown; daughters Lynn Welles and husband Lincoln of Wyalusing, and Jill Kostenbader and husband Robert of Lehighton; four grandchildren.
