Orval Eugene Nussbaum was born December 29, 1924 to Alfred and Dora (Farley) Nussbaum in Newburn, Iowa. He passed from this life Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Lucas County Health Center located in Chariton, Iowa at the age of 89 years.

Orval attended the Newburn area schools. On September 9, 1949 married Emma (Swinscoe) Mitchell . To this union Joan Ellen was born and joined two siblings Regina Joyce and Van . Orval worked at Johnson’s Machine Works until he retired from there after serving with their company for 54 years. He had started at the very grass roots of the business and throughout the years work himself up the company ladder. Johnson’s would fly him all around the country to assist with bridge making and other various projects of great importance. His daughter, Joan, commented that he enjoyed every minute he spent working with the Johnson’s Machine Works company. He also served his country in World War II. Orval was drafted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. The war ended two weeks after he was drafted.

Orval was preceded in death by his wife, Emma; his parents, Alfred and Dora Nussbaum; his son, Van Mitchell; and his sisters, Esther Langford and Mabel Abrahamson.

He is survived by his daughters, Joan (Gordon) Skeffington of Waukee, IA and Regina Woods of

Knoxville, IA; five grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
