Opal L. Skeel, 88, of Freeport, died Saturday, July 3, 2011, at the Stephenson Nursing Center. Born April 1, 1923 in Freeport she was the daughter of Albert J. and Lura (Beidler) Snyder. She married Fremont Skeel on October 19, 1940 and he died in 1981.
She and her sister owned the OK Restaurant and then she and her husband owned the Lacondo Restaurant and then the O & S Restaurant all in downtown. Opal then worked at Micro Switch until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. Surviving are her nephew, Larry (Lucille) Miller of Freeport, and several other nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 sisters; and 6 brothers.
