Ona Zina Morkunas, 76, of Three Oaks, Michigan died peacefully, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at her home with Chow Chow, her cat, keeping her company.Zina was born October 20, 1936 to Juozas and Ona (Dvilinskaite) Laskauskas in Lithuania. She lived in Brasil before emigrating to the United States.
She was an artist and earned her degree at Kent State Universty. Zina married Mykolas Morkunas and together they worked at the family’s ing business in Chicago. She was a unique and caring woman. Zina would buy children’s books and toys, and with the help of her friend, mailed them to poor children in Lithuania. She loved animals, once adopting a raccoon. Zina also kept the neighborhood squirrels well fed with corn. She will be missed by her friends and the animals she cared for so lovingly.
Zina was preceded in death by her husband, and in 2005 by her son, Michael “Bear” Morkunas.
