Olive Decema Billbe Jurgens, 94 years, of South Jacksonville, IL died Friday morning, January 26, 2007, at Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. She was born November 12, 1912, in Mechanicsburg, IL; the daughter of Frank Leslie and Fannie Adeline Marvin Billbe. She married John Nicholas Jurgens on September 5, 1948, at the Christian Church in Mechanicsburg, IL and he survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Joy Kate Meyer (husband, Bernie) of rural Arenzville; a son, Dr. Carl Jurgens (wife, Linda) of Belvidere; four grandchildren, Tracy, John, Paul, and Daniel Jurgens, all of Belvidere; three step-grandsons, Neal, Chris, and Cory Meyer, all of rural Arenzville; five sisters, Grace Blakeman of Taylorville, Edith Doty of Camp Point, Louise Sarver of Decatur, Frances Lakin of Bloomington, and Evelyn Traughber of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-granddaughter, Allison Meyer; two sisters, Ruth Hohenstein and Vivian Taylor; and six brothers, George, Frank E., James, Leroy, Paul, and Dean Billbe.

Mrs. Jurgens graduated from Tri-City High School in Illiopolis and was a 1938 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL. She attended post-graduate classes at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and was employed at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for 3 years. She moved to Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL, joining their faculty, and was employed as the Head Nursing Instructor of their School of Nursing. She also completed additional coursework at Millikin University in Decatur. She returned to Memorial Hospital in Springfield as a member of their teaching faculty staff in 1948. More recently, she was employed by Passavant Memorial Area Hospital in Jacksonville as both a nursing faculty member and nursing staff member.

Mrs. Jurgens was an active volunteer for 20 years with American Red Cross and was a member of the Mary Martha Guild from 1948 to 1985 at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains, IL. She was currently a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville.
