Olga J. Fernandez, 89, of Willimantic, suddenly passed away at Windham Hospital on Friday, February 11, 2022 with her loving family at her side. She was born in 1932 in Arequipa, Peru. Olga married Hector Fernandez and together with their four children ventured to the United States in search of a better life. They settled in Willimantic and their dreams were made possible by American Thread employment sponsorship and later Rogers Corp.
Olga was a loving, caring, independent, brave and devoted mother raising their four daughters who arrived in the US after Hector established a home in Willimantic. Olga and Hector became proud parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Both loving grandparents cared for their grandchildren teaching them to dream, take chances, enjoy life and most importantly be a close loving family.
Olga and Hector were members of the Peruvian Club and enjoyed ballroom dancing and making sure their daughters have the American Dream.
Olga is survived by her children, daughter Sara Fernandez Zambo of Mansfield, CT and her children Joseph and Jennifer Zambo of Raleigh, NC and Stacey Zambo of Ashford, CT, daughter Danitza Fernandez Nall and her husband Mark Nall of Franklin, CT and their children, Jason and wife Marissa Nall and great grandchildren children Catalina and Dominic from Prospect, CT and son James and wife Stephanie Nall of N. Haven, CT, stepson Hector and wife Naima Fernandez and their children Sabrina and Adam from Orlando, FL. She also leaves behind her son in- law William Lussier from Franklin, CT and granddaughter Tori Lussier and her fiance Jose Emanuel Arriaga from Windham, CT, son in-law Arthur Raymond and grandson, Anthony and wife Chelsea Raymond from Woodstock, CT.
She is also survived by her siblings, Henry Paredes and his wife Linda Paredes, Lady Paredes Barrionuevo, Jorge Luis Paredes, Nancy Paredes, Zoila Paredes, Ynger Luna and husband Jorge Luna, and many nieces and nephews.
Olga was predeceased by her husband, Hector Fernandez, daughter, Daitzi Fernandez Lussier and grandson, William Lussier Jr., daughter, Miriam Fernandez Raymond, grandmother, Tomasa Salinas (who raised her), father, Luis Paredes Salinas, brothers, Willy Paredes and Luis Victor Paredes, stepmother, Luzmila Paredes, sisters-in-law, Dery Zuniga de Paredes and Sofia Pilco de Paredes, brothers -in-law, Hugo Barrionuevo and Ronald Arenas.
The family wishes to thank the Willimantic police officers, Willimantic Fire Department first responders, Windham Hospital paramedics, ER nurses and doctors who attended to her in her time of need. We’d also like to thank her long time, loving Ash Street neighbors who looked after her like family.
