Odette Rhee, also known as Liliane Pellati was born January 19, 1934 in Paris France
to Yvonne Houyez and Robert Pellati. She grew up during World War II and worked as
a radiologist. She won the Decathelon Moderne, a 10-sport women’s Olympic championship.
She met Douglas S. Rhee at the French Embassy in Paris and moved to New York City where
she married and had two children. In 1972 she divorced.
She held many positions throughout the years in New York City, from bank teller, shoe saleswoman for Carel and Charles Jourdan, to bilingual secretary for the Mission of Morrocco and Djiboutie to the United Nations, Club Med, the VA Hospital in the Bronx, and the IRS at the World Trade Center.
She was a very devoted and selfless single Mom making many sacrifices for her kids- sewing their uniforms,
giving them judo, hockey, piano lessons and dance classes, taking them skiing and ice skating and traveling
throughout the world- France, Jamaica, South Korea, Japan and taking them to rock concerts in the crater of
a volcano in Oahu, Hawaii.
Liliane was a beautiful, passionate, dynamic, free-spirited flower child of the 60s. She loved cats, reggae,
chocolate and most of all life. She will be deeply missed forever.
