Obituary
Virgil L Morris passed away on April 17, 2018 at the age of 101. He was the beloved husband of Betty Morris nee Alink of Wentzville, Missouri; He is survived by his children, U.S.N. Retired Chief Leslie (Sue) Morris of Pierson, FL; Susan (Michael) Holleran; Captain D.O.D John (Kimberly) Morris of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; Pamela (Lt. Col. USMC Retired Matt) Park of San Francisco, CA; Loreen (Miles Lansing) Morris of Webster Groves, MO; Nine grandchildren, Five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Father, Arthur Morris, mother, Lena Leirer, son, Charles “Tony” Morris, sister, Rozella Bollinger, Former Spouse, Bessie Morris. In Virgil’s formative years he worked at the St. Louis Shipyard constructing ships for WWII purposes. He was drafted into the Navy and was enlisted on the U.S.S. AJAX, a tender ship. He held a active role in welding and tending to the boiler system on the ship. His ship was the only one of 14 vessels which survived a violent typhoon which took place toward the end of WWII. After his service in the Navy, he worked for several years at Webster University as Director of the physical plant. He maintained several boilers and equipment which helped the university persevere and thrive. His vast electrical knowledge was shared with students in the Rockingham 4-H group. Virgil was a member of Faith U.C.C. in Wentzville. He was also a former School Board member in Wentzville and a lifetime member of the Wentzville American Legion. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
