Cape Elizabeth – Vincent A. Ciampi Sr., a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and best friend passed away on May 8, 2013 with his son and daughter at his side.
Vincent was born on September 20, 1930 in Portland, Maine, the son of Alexander and Connie Ciampi. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Cheverus High School. It was during his high school years that he met the love of his life, Mary Greeley. They married on April 25 1953 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, Maine.
Following high school, Vincent started his career at Day’s Jewelry Store. During his time with Day’s he became the number one manager in it’s 21 store chain. His years of dedication to the Day’s chain were interrupted for four years beginning in 1951 when he served with the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he rapidly achieved status as a Staff Sergeant and was awarded Airman of the Month over 1700 other Airman in 1953.
Upon returning to Maine he continued his career with Day’s Jewelry Store until purchasing Portland Appliance Servicenter. He was a strong business owner who grew his business significantly, by maintaining what was most important to him; a trusted family run business. His business grew a large dedicated customer base due to Vincent’s integrity and his genuine concern for them.
As a husband, father and friend he was a loving, caring and giving role model. His commitment to family and friends was an example for all of those around him. His favorite times included a dining room table, lots of Italian food, every chair filled and endless conversations and stories.
His grandsons Vinnie and Anthony brought a new satisfaction to his life. He was the best of playmates, for both of them. His pride in them was reflected in his smile and eyes. Two and a half years ago he opened his heart to the newest member of the Ciampi family, his great grandson Matthew.
Vincent was predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents, his brother David and his sister, Angela DiPietroantonio. He is survived by his daughter, Kathi Hardy and her husband Jack of Cumberland and his son, Vincent, Jr. and his wife Anne-Marie of Scarborough. He is also survived by his grandsons: Vinnie Ciampi and Anthony Hardy as well as his great-grandson, Matthew Ciampi. Vincent is also survived by his sister Nancy Wyman of Portland.
Vincent’s kindness and gentlemanly ways will be missed by all.
