Thomas J. Michalek passed away on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota at the age of 84.
Thomas Joseph Michalek was born on May 3, 1919 in Langdon, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Laura (Lindsay) Michalek. He lived in Langdon until moving to Alvarado, Minnesota with his family when he was 10. He attended Alvarado Public School. Thomas worked on a number of foreign jobs as a sheet metal worker on construction projects in the Panama Canal Zone, French Morocco, Peru, South America, Greenland, Iceland, Bangladesh and Puerto Rico. Some of the various projects he worked on were copper mining, airbase and hydro electric power plant projects. He also worked in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Puget Sound Navy Yard and areas in Minnesota and North Dakota. He moved back to Alvarado in 1985.
He was a member of the Rice Lake, Wisconsin Moose Lodge and the Sheet Metal Workers International Association.
