Thelma Rea Jones was born June 1, 1933 to Lora Brown and Van Jones in Water Valley, MS. She confessed a hope In Christ at an early age. Mrs. Thelma “The Candy Lady” as she was known by many and family, had a stern, but loving spirit. She loved working at Klamie’s Bowling Alley and watching episodes of Sanford and Son.
Thelma was united in marriage to Moses Phillips on April 14, 1953, and within this marriage eight children were born.
On July 27, 2022, in the comfort of her home, she closed her eyes to take her rest and went home to be with the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Elton “Elmo” Phillips, Laura Lee Phillips-Williams (Randal), L.V. Phillips (Theretha), Howard L. Phillips (Luvenia), all of Oxford, MS; Martha Frierson (Tyrone) of Indianapolis, IN, 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one sister: Henrietta Cole of Batesville, MS, two brothers: Ivory Jones, Freddie Jones all of Milwaukee, WI and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Moses Phillips, sons, Vernon Phillips, Daniel Earl Phillips, daughter, Debra Parkes, grandchildren: Nicholas Oliver, Makal MySpecial Phillips, her sisters and brothers: Magnolia Briscoe, Jessie Powell, Eloise Carver, James Etta Perry, Lula Lee, Ida Dickerson and Jessie Earl Jackson.
