Tom Albert Smedsmo (Al, T.A.) passed away peacefully on July 21, 2006.
He was born March 10, 1916 in Norland Township, Roseau County to Norwegian parents, Syver and Synne (Brunstugun) Smedsmo. He attended school at Norland. The family moved to Enstrom Township of Roseau County in the late 1920’s where he continued school in Spruce #109. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served as a mortar gunner in the Pacific Theatre until the end of WWII. He married his bride of 65 years, Marjorie Michal on the eve of Pearl Harbor, December 6, 1941. Following the war he farmed in Enstrom Township. Marge, Al and Annette relocated to Naples, Florida in 1965 where Al worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1981.
