Sylvia E. Milk of St. James passed away Saturday June 29, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in St. James. She was 96 years 4 months and 16 days of age.
Sylvia was born February 13, 1917, at Meta, Mo., the daughter of the late Rev. Menzo and Georgia Brooks (Burnett) Sooter.
Sylvia married Marvin E. Milk, he entered into rest September 16, 1995.
Sylvia Milk is survived by her daughter: Joyce Milk of Ashland, Mo., Sister Joyce Steele of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three grandchildren: Celeste Marc of St Charles, IL., Paul Milk of Peachtree, GA., Jesse Milk of West Virginia and her daughter. She is further survived by six great grandchildren: Morgan Milk, Mitchell Marc, Mason Milk, Nicholas Marc and Lauran Marc. Sister-in-law: Clara Sooter of St. James., along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Sylvia Milk is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Paul E. Milk, who passed away December 18, 1984. Brothers: Wil, Edward, Dorsie, Paul Sooter and Charles Sooter. Sisters: Ilene, Mildred, Betty and Billie.
Sylvia Milk was called to the Lord’s work in 1945 when the Lord spoke to her She was filled with God’s Spirit, and she was healed from cancer.
Sylvia was very happy to start her work in the Assembly of God Church at Kankakee, IL. She was a sunday school teacher and children church leader along with her husband, who did janitor work. Sylvia was active in the Joliet prison ministry where she worked monthly. She also went to the hospital in Kankakee, Il., where she prayed for the sick.
In 1950, Sylvia started a work in Bourbonnas Illinois., where she ministered to her neighbors. A lady named Hazel Lainhart, who was called of God came to Sylvia and she was a great witness. She worked with Sylvia for many years ministering and anointing of the Holy ghost, She met with people in her home. Sylvia’s ministry grew. She rented a building, and later she and her husband decided to buy a church building to meet in. They named the building Pentecost Faith Church. They were licensed with Internal Gospel Assembly of God of Desoto, Mo. In 1969 Mr. and Mrs. Milk were ordained.
Sylvia was called to prison to give a man last rights before he was put to death in the electric chair. Sylvia was greatly touch by this and continuted her work in the prison. She was called home Saturday morning to her heavenly home, that home not made with hands but eternal in the heavens.
