Obituary
Steve Wayne and Marilyn “Susie” Nanney passed away on June 15, 2018 both at the age of 51. Steve is survived by his sister, Tammy Fox, brothers, Terry (Cheryl) Nanney, Gerald (Tricia) Nanney, Scott (Jami) Nanney and Eric (Heather) Nanney, nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Sarah, Amy, Christoper, Justin, Janessa, Joey, Thomas, Brittany, Kyle and Adelaide. He is preceded in death by his father, Allen Nanney, mother, Bernice Nanney nee Himmelsbach, brother, Donald Nanney.

Susie is survived by her mother, Ruth Johnson, brother, Jackie Johnson Jr. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Johnson.

Steve proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army and was a police officer with the Blaine, MN department for a decade. He was also a school resource officer and the trap shooting coach at Blaine High School in Blaine, MN. Steve dedicated countless hours to the Special Olympics, Law Enforcement Torch Run and Ride to Life. Steve had promised to attend the June 16th graduation party of a Blaine High School senior he had mentored that is intending to pursue a career in law enforcement. When Steve’s life was cut short the night before the party, officers from both the Blaine and Coon Rapids police departments went in his memory.

Susie was a first-generation college student who went on to become a professor at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine with the title Marilyn Susie Nanney, PhD, MPH, MS, RD, Associate Professor. Susie was passionate about supporting students to realize their dreams of a successful college education despite economic or social barriers. She shared the same passion of giving as her husband, dedicating her career to improving the health and nutrition of underserved populations at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Steve and Susie had a lifelong commitment to mentoring. According to Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany, “They gave everything for others.” He described the pair as inseparable and “really kind, genuine people.” Together, Steve and Susie, enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting, fishing and travel. They will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved them.
