Severin Gehard Halvorson, 89, of Roseau, MN died, Saturday, July 21, 2007 in the Roseau Area Hospital. He was born on Oct. 11, 1917 in Roseau to Tollef and Kristine (Loftus) Halvorson. Severin grew up in Jadis Township and attended Rindahl School. He was employed at local farms and worked for two years logging in the woods. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army.
Severin married Florence Anderson of Piney, Manitoba in Thief River Falls, MN on Oct. 30, 1940. Following their marriage the moved to International Falls, MN where he was employed at the paper mill for 7 years. They moved back to Ross Township in 1946, to start farming small grains. He also worked road construction 20 plus years, driving heavy equipment. He was employed at Polaris Industries for 3 years and he worked at the David Grahn Farms. Severin retired in 1978 and put his land into the soil bank.
Severin’s hobbies included woodworking for craft sales, he loved to spend time in his shop, he also enjoyed, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a member of the Rose Free Lutheran church and the Roseau American Legion.
Severin was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Harold Halvorson and Terry Halvorson; an infant granddaughter; his brothers and sisters, Henry, Kittle, Elmer, Mathilda, Taylor, Ted and Elsie.
Survivors include his spouse, Florence; his children, Katharine (David) Grahn of Roseau; Patricia (Richard) Johnson of Fargo, ND; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; daughter in-laws, Connie Halvorson and Kathy Halvorson both of Roseau.
